I have been presenting 100 Years of Boston Comedy, which gives an overview of live comedy in and around Boston, for nearly three years. And now it's time for the 80s to shine!
My intent has always been to make this a series, taking specific eras or topics and shining on them a spotlight all their own. This will be the very first edition of The 80s Comedy Boom, telling the story of how this town became a hotspot through the birth of The Comedy Connection and the Ding Ho, launching Steven Wright, Paula Poundstone, Denis Leary, Marc Maron, David Cross, Janeane Garofalo, Barry Crimmins, Jimmy Tingle, Lenny Clarke, Steve Sweeney, Mike Donovan, Mike McDonald, Dana Gould, Bobcat Goldthwait, and so many others.
This presentation will include clips of their comedy along with audio from some of my own interviews through more than 26 years covering this scene for The Boston Globe, The Boston Pheonix, and various other publications.
