J. David Maloney of the Strongsville Historical Society will present his talk on the 1965 Palm Sunday Tornado which swept through Strongsville 60 years ago. He will tell the story of the 1965 Palm Sunday tornado outbreak, a severe weather event which formed 55 confirmed tornadoes across the Midwest and Southeastern United States. This unprecedented outbreak caused over 260 deaths, over 3,600 injuries and over $1.2 billion in damages. David will concentrate on the storms’ impacts on Strongsville which suffered a direct impact from one of the worst recorded tornados of the entire event which caused major damages across the town and primarily in the Westwood Estates neighborhood adjacent to Muraski Elementary School. The presentation will most notably feature first hand accounts from members of the Strongsville community who were witnesses to the storm as it swept through town. This presentation is in partnership with the Strongsville Historical Society and the Strongsville Branch Library.
