Piedmont Historical Preservation Society(PHPS) continues its commitment to Education by sponsoring an internship program with USC Upstate. You are invited to attend the program presenting the 2026 Fall Semester Research and Studies.
The overall project was to conduct a contrast and comparison of the 1934 Chiquola Mill Massacre, with an overall question: “Why was the strike at Piedmont Manufacturing and Chiquola Mill different?”
The students were assigned various details of the events to research and create a program to present to the community.
The timeline of the events in both communities is astonishing. Forgotten dates and events have been rediscovered by the research team.
Join us to learn about the differences in the Piedmont and Honea Path General Textile Strike of 1934. Hear about the effects of intervention by State and Local Officials. Learn about the Flying Squadron and the United Textile Workers (UTW).
Discover some little known facts about Piedmont Manufacturing and it’s National and International influence in the textile industry.
The exciting and informative one hour presentation will be Friday, November 20th, at 1:00pm, in the Rowell Club Room of the Historic Piedmont Community Building located at 3 Main Street, Piedmont, SC.
