About the Workshop

Want to make a show? In this fast-paced experimental workshop, we’ll start with a premise: a show exists if you pretend it exists. From there, we’ll dream up the shows we want to make, pretend they’re real, and start creating.

Using techniques from clowning and devising, we’ll put our most ridiculous and unrefined ideas directly on their feet, daring to make material so brazen it’s destined for the cutting room floor. We’ll also spend some time writing, fleshing out the worlds we want to invent onstage through generative exercises designed to sidestep overthinking and cut through self-consciousness.

Participants are equally welcome to come in with a blank slate or to bring in existing projects.

Some clown, improv, or devising experience is recommended. Participants will be given on-the-fly feedback throughout the workshop, while also being asked to work quickly and embrace moments of uncertainty—so the more ready you are to dive in, the more we can play, fail, and discover together as a group.

About Daniel

Daniel created the show “BE GOOD!” WITH PAULETTE, a social anxiety fantasia that won the inaugural Fringe award for best clown performance at the 2025 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. The show played to cult acclaim at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe (★★★★, Mervyn Stutter’s Pick of the Fringe) and is currently touring the United States, Europe, and the UK. Daniel trained at École Philippe Gaulier where he now teaches.
