What is so special about Thanksgiving Day in history anyway?A Thanksgiving day became a tradition in towns up and down New England in the early years of the nation.
In the mind nineteenth century, Sarah Josepha Hale, edited Godey’s Ladies Book, a very popular and influential magazine in the United States. She recommended exercise for women, and encouraged women to get an education.
She also promoted a national Thanksgiving Day holiday.
Abraham Lincoln liked the idea, and a national holiday was born.
Not surprisingly, it took a while for Thanksgiving to catch on in the south, but it did.
Now it’s a holiday for everyone, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, atheists. We come together for food and family once a year.
