Celebrate the textile heritage of early America in the historic mill village of Glencoe located along the Haw River. Living historians will demonstrate various aspects of the craftsmanship of that era with weaving, spinning, quilting and blacksmithing. Explore the original company store, the office of James H. Holt, who was the first mill president, and across the street you will find the home of the superintendent, which is open for public viewing. One can stroll the streets and enjoy the interesting but simple architecture of virtually an entire 1880's textile mill village, one of the few in the southeastern United States. Also, within the Glencoe Village, is a wonderful section of the Haw River Trails, which one can enjoy a nice Fall hike along the waterfront and the Outdoor Learning playground managed by the Alamance Partnership for Children, is always a fun place to take the kids.
This special event is FREE, but donations are greatly appreciated, and there is a museum gift shop to purchase keepsakes, which the proceeds go toward the operations and preservation of the Textile Heritage Museum.
