Texas History 101 is a lecture series designed to further your understanding of Texas history as the Museum’s history specialist, Amelia White, takes you on an in-depth look at topics in Texas history. In February 1836, Santa Anna’s army arrived in Texas leading to a series of disastrous defeats for the Texans at the Alamo and Goliad. Just months later, on April 21, 1836, Sam Houston led the Texas Army of the People to victory at San Jacinto, capturing Santa Anna and ending the war.
In the final lecture of the series, we will look at the most famous battles of the Texas Revolution and try to separate myth from reality. Did William Travis draw a line in the sand? Did Sam Houston save Santa Anna because he was a mason?
Find out the answer to these questions and more as you meet key generals in the war including Texas general Sam Houston and Mexican generals José de Urrea and Vicente Filísola.
