AWAY WITH THE FAIRIES!Join dark historian Andrew Johnston of Alternative Ulstours on Friday the 13th for an illustrated Terror Talk on Ireland's fateful relationship with superstition.
Andrew will investigate the 'piseóg', an old Irish word meaning a hex or a spell, deliberately enacted with evil intent. The malicious purpose of the piseóg was to steal a neighbour's luck, through disturbing rituals involving death, decay or supernatural forces.
The talk will explore Ireland's fear of fairy forts and fairy trees, fear that has seen roads rerouted or construction projects halted. Learn about developers' catalogue of misfortune invoked by the 'curse of Tara' and how the DeLorean car company ran afoul of the Fae.
Andrew will also explain the dark origins behind our most common 'Irish wives' tales', such as knocking on wood, covering mirrors at a wake or avoiding putting new shoes on the table.
So, come along to the iconic Sunflower Public House, buy a drink, pull up a seat and take your chances with Alternative Ulstours!
