About this Event

The Convening for Dance & Culture Conference brings two days of African and Afro-diasporic dance, drum, and community to The ANDY (Andy Arts Center) in Detroit. Learn from master artists in Sabar, Djembe, Kutiro, Dun, Congolese, Afrobeats, and Afro-Caribbean styles, with live drumming in multiple classes. All levels welcome! Come to learn, sweat, and connect. Bundles include general dance classes; Djembe Drum and Dun Dance are add-on classes. Djembes and duns are available first-come, first-served (limited).

- Where: Andy Arts Center, 3000 Fenkell Ave, Detroit, MI
- What: 2 days β’ African & Afro-diasporic dance + drum β’ live percussion
- Levels: Beginner to advanced (modifications offered)
- Tickets: Bundles = general dance classes; Djembe and Dun Drum & Dun Dance are extra add-ons.
- Instruments: Djembes & duns provided first-come, first-served (limited)
- Policies: No refunds or exchanges; schedule/faculty subject to change
- Bring: Comfortable dancewear, water, small towel; ear protection recommended for sensitive ears

We are inspired by traditions, ancestral wisdom, and the natural world. It reflects the understanding that life is interconnected, balancing the physical, social, cultural, and spiritual.
