Tema International Marathon - Run the Meridian

The Tema International Marathon, themed "Run the Meridian," is a prestigious annual marathon event set to take place in the heart of Tema, Ghana. Located on the prime meridian (Longitude 0°), Tema is not only a bustling industrial hub but also a strategic geographical location of global significance. The event is open to participants from all regions of Ghana and beyond, with the dual purpose of promoting sports tourism and boosting the local economy. The marathon offers a unique opportunity to run along the prime meridian, a geographical feature that few cities in the world can boast of. This event will attract athletes, tourists, fitness enthusiasts, corporate teams, and local communities, all gathering in Tema to celebrate health, fitness, culture, and tourism.
The 2026 Tema International Marathon – “Run The Meridian” is an international sporting event designed to position the industrial city of Tema as a premier sports tourism destination in Ghana and West Africa. Organized by the Green Sports Academy, the event is expected to attract over 5,000 runners and more than 15,000 spectators, including professional athletes, corporate teams, recreational runners, fitness enthusiasts, and tourists from across the globe. Tema occupies a unique geographical position because Longitude 0° (The Prime Meridian) passes through the city. This provides a rare and marketable opportunity to create a global marathon experience where participants literally run across the world’s reference line between the Eastern and Western hemispheres. The Run the Meridian Marathon will not only celebrate sport and wellness but also promote tourism, environmental sustainability, and economic growth within the Tema metropolis. This proposal invites forward-thinking corporate organizations and institutions to partner with Green Sports Academy to deliver an unforgettable event that will place Tema on the global marathon calendar.
