A Chiarina commission and world premiere; Lori Laitman’s prescient song cycle Tell the Story, with affecting text by poet Joseph Fasano, contemplates humanity in the face of injustice and poignantly remembers ICU nurse Alex Pretti. Benjamin Boyle’s evocative Southern Songs, with texts by DC-born poet Jean Toomer, contrast with lush songs of longing by Brahms. Colorful songs by Parisian-born Henri Duparc scintillate, and Rebecca Clarke’s dramatic viola sonata – groundbreaking at its premiere — showcases the possibilities of the instrument.
