Tell Mark Carney & David Myles: No Two-Tier, U.S. Style Health Care

On September 1, 2026, we need to tell the Carney Government: No to Two-Tier U.S.-Style Health Care.
Why?
1. Alberta’s Bill 11, passed last December, allows doctors to decide, patient by patient, whether to bill someone directly or bill the public system, thereby creating a parallel private tier health care system where care depends on ability to pay rather than medical need. This is a direct violation against the Canadian Health Act as shown by the legal opinion obtained by the Canadian Health Coalition. 2. In May 2026, Alberta passed Bill 29, that now allows a person to self-refer and pay directly for MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds, X-rays tests and CT services, by-passing doctors. This will lead to unnecessary testing, additional staff leaving the public system or an increase load for technicians or doctors to interpret the tests results and an overall erosion of the public system. When wealthy patients jump the queue, everyone else moves further back on the waiting list.
3. If Alberta is left unchallenged by the federal government, this two-tier health care system will spread across Canada.
September 1, the New Brunswick Health Coalition, in collaboration with the Canadian Health Coalition and other provincial health coalitions, wants to send a clear message to our Members of Parliament: We will not accept the erosion of our public health care system.
