Starting from Moretonhampstead bus station, we will walk through town to the track via Yarningdale Farm to Mardon Down to visit the medieval hut circles, standing stones and Gaints Grave. We will continue through Coleridge Wood down to Clifford Bridge. The route will take us to Fingle Bridge where we can have a picnic or stop for refreshments.From Fingle Bridge we will climb the steep path up to the Cranbrook Down to visit Cranbrook Fort and Butterdon Down standing stones. Then it's time to return to Moretonhampstead in time for further refreshments from the local establishments as desired.
The route covers well marked footpaths going across steep and sometimes rocky terrain, some paths can be muddy/uneven.
