About this Event

NYC TEEN SUMMER ART EXPERIENCE "DRAWING THE CITY"
meets 4 Days per Week

Give your teen a creative, active, and engaging summer Art Camp in NYC. "Drawing the City" is a specialized, small-group summer program designed for rising 7th graders through rising high school seniors.

This program is a perfect fit for teens who enjoy art, museums, history, and architecture. Your child does not need to be an expert artist—they just need a curiosity about the world around them!

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR: DALE B. COHEN, M.Arch, Assoc. AIA

This summer program is led by Dale B. Cohen, founder of dalecohendesignstudio.com. Ms. Cohen is a New York City-based interior architect, interior designer, thoughtleader and educator. Trained as an architect, Dale's work connects architecture, design, and visual art. In addition to her professional practice, she taught architecture for six years at both the undergraduate and graduate university levels, bringing the same thoughtful, studio-based approach used in design schools to younger artists.

Drawing inspiration from New York City's extraordinary museums, architecture, and streetscapes, Dale guides students in developing strong observational drawing skills while learning to see the built environment through the eyes of an artist and designer. Through sketching, museum visits, and architectural drawing exercises, students strengthen their understanding of composition, perspective, light, space, and visual storytelling.

More than a traditional drawing class, this program introduces teens to the creative thinking behind art, architecture, and design—building confidence, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the city that surrounds them.

HOW IT WORKS:

Each 4-day session is a mix of art history, museum exploration, and hands-on sketching (with pencil and charcoal). We will move through art museums and iconic city spots. Each week is different in focus and adventure.

• History of Art: Interactive guided walking tours through NYC museums.

• Museum Sketching: Live sketching of historic objects using pencil.

• Drawing the City: Outdoor urban sketching focusing on NYC's historic architecture.
