Teddy Roosevelt 50-Mile Trek on the C & O Canal!

For several years FreeWalkers has hosted the Kennedy50 and now we are offering something different - The Teddy Roosevelt 50-Mile Trek. Join us for a fun weekend. Do 25 miles or all of it - your choice. If you decide to do 25 miles R/T to Shepardstown and back you can start a bit later in the morning. The 50-mile group will start at 4 am. This means you carry your own food, drinks and if you decide to shorten it, you are on your own. There will be an (optional) breakfast stop in Shepardstown for those who want to explore the area.

Start for the 50-mile route: 4 am at the trail head in Harpers Ferry . Exact location to be announced to those who register.

Start for the 25-mile route: 6:30 am - same location as above just a later start.

Accomodations: Book your own.There are many small B nB's and small hotels in Harper's Ferry area. Look at AirBnb or check out Hotels.com for ideas.

Food: Carry your own supplies. Water, sandwiches, snacks etc.

Difficulty: Advanced level walk. If you have never walked this distance you can start training now to build up your stamina. If you've done 25-30 mile walks you can probably do some or all of this, but please know your limits (NOT for beginners).

Terrain: Crushed gravel, dirt tow path. Mostly flat.

Friday Night dinner: Optional group dinner depending on the number of folks who are staying in Harper's Ferry.

Training Walk: There will be a long-distance training walk offered for those who register here, so plan early to get this information. The training walk will take place in NJ on the D&R canal.
