TED LYONS: "PIGMEN OR MULEMEN, YOU DECIDE" Art Exhibit
January 11-March 7, 2026
Ted Lyons, age 73, was born in Raleigh and raised in Winston-Salem, NC and is both a painter and a musician.
His musical career began at age 6 as he played rhythm on oil drums in the back yard progressing to an edgy, creative drummer, keyboardist, and guitarist. He's performed internationally with Chris Stamey, Percy Sledge, Donnie Elbert, John Lee Hooker, Miami's 4th Arrangement, Mark Knopfler, Sally Spring, and Syd Straw from small local house concerts to audiences of 10,000 plus.
Ted began drawing and painting at a young age and was included in a group show at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh when he was a mere 14 years old. Later in his career, he designed and painted livery on race cars at Bowman Gray Stadium as well as decorated boards, walls, musical instruments, and posters displaying these clandestinely throughout town turning his surroundings into garish living art. For 30 years, his medium was three-dimensional acrylic art on canvas as well as animated sculptures from gourds.
Presently, Ted is working with colored pencils on paper, expressing the consistent underlying themes of humor and absurdity.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
It's been decades since Mr. Lyons had an art show in Hoboken. Several years ago, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Despite being in the hospital over the last several months, he continued to make drawings for this show. His energy, humor and joy are contagious and encourage one to step out of the norm into a different world.
ABOUT THIS SHOW:
PIGMEN OR MULEMEN, YOU DECIDE
You are undoubtedly under the delusion, or should
say misapprehension that we of the Cartoon
Animal Kingdom are lacking in the finer
sensibilities.
To disprove this, we ask you to forget our
former pranks and playfulness.
We ask you in the name of dignity and art to
put yourselves in a receptive frame of mind and not expect from us the clowning
with which you generally associate us. Now let us proceed with the
503 Social Club art celebration!
