Join this timely discussion on how U.S. AI policy is becoming a battleground for racial equity, inclusion, and democratic values.
About this Event

Co-hosted by the Goldman School of Public Policy and UC Berkeley Law's Edley Center on Law and Democracy

Join Spencer Overton (Professor of Law, George Washington University), Lawrence Norden (Vice President, Elections and Government, Brennan Center for Justice), and Catherine E. Lhamon (Executive Director, Edley Center on Law and Democracy) for a timely conversation on how artificial intelligence policy will shape the future of American democracy.

The event will begin with an overview of Overton’s latest article, Ethnonationalism by Algorithm, which argues that AI policy in the United States has become a battleground for ethnonationalism—an ideology that defines national identity through ancestry, culture, and language. This will be followed by a discussion that will explore a critical question: Will AI deepen racial inequality and exclusion—or can it be leveraged to advance equity, inclusion, and a more participatory democracy?

Join us for an essential conversation at the intersection of technology, racial justice, and democratic governance. Lunch will be provided.
