About this Event
For decades, outsourcing defined international tech collaboration, separating code from context and labor from leadership. While cost-efficient for the Global North, it reinforced the very global power imbalances that continue to disadvantage communities in the Global South.
This session highlights how Rwanda is responding to these inequalities by actively shaping a new narrative: one of integrated teams and digital transformation rooted in shared ownership, responsibility, and opportunity.
Today, Rwanda is positioning itself not as a low-cost coding destination, but as a strategic tech partner shaping the future of a fairer global tech ecosystem. In Kigali, international startups are building integrated, remote teams that don’t just execute, they co-create. Rwandan developers contribute ideas, shape product design, and take ownership of products from day one.
This new model doesn’t just produce better tech, it creates fair, future-proof job opportunities, expands global participation, and helps shift the balance of power in how future tech ecosystems are shaped and who gets to actively participate in them. It’s built on fairness, proven by practice and ready to scale.
Drawing from the lived experiences of Rwandan developers and German tech companies that have built product teams in Kigali, this event explores what equitable collaboration looks like and why Rwanda should be seen as a strategic tech location: a place where startups can build innovative digital solutions with highly skilled local professionals, while contributing to a more inclusive and just global tech ecosystem.
