About this Event
Got a cupboard full of herbs and no idea where to start? Or are you new to herbs and herbalism, but unsure how to prepare herbs as tea? If so, this class series is for you! Come join us at your favorite neighborhood herb shop for some fun, hands-on classes to learn how to craft delicious, healing, seasonal herbal teas. These classes will be packed with learning and fun!
Together we’ll:
- Explore the medicinal qualities of seasonal herbs,
- Discuss brewing techniques for the best flavor and maximum benefits,
- Guide you through building flavor profiles (think floral, spicy, fruity, and grassy),
- Distinguish between blending for enjoyment vs medicinal use,
- Share some of our favorite recipes, along with guidance on recipe formulation,
- Provide tips on proper herbal storage to keep your herbs fresher for longer.
And you’ll create your own tea recipes to make and sip at home. Each participant will leave with their personal tea recipe, and a small sample (1-2 servings) which they will create and bag in class using the herbs provided. A recording will be shared with all participants after the class..
Whether you’re brand-new to tea or looking to refresh your skills, this first class will leave you inspired and confident. And join us again in the fall for even more delightful tea-making.So bring a mug, a bowl for blending, a spoon, a strainer, your curiosity (and maybe a friend!) and get ready to blend, taste, and explore the herbs of the season plus a few more—your tea cup will thank you!
Please bring with you:
- A tea mug
- A bowl for blending
- A spoon
- A tea strainer
A recording will be shared with all participants after the class..
About the Instructors:
Hi, I'm Meaghan, a Smile Herb employee, clinical herbalist, and Garden Educator based out of Baltimore. My love of plants was passed down from my father and great grandmother who taught me how to garden and the medicinal uses for the plants that grow around us. As a 9th generation Marylander, I feel deeply connected to this land and the plants here. I love learning and sharing traditional remedies and gardening practices that carried my ancestors to liberation and good health.
Hi, I'm Shaneka, also a Smile Herb employee! Plants have always been part of my life. On my family farm in Texas, my sister and I spent hours in the woods among the trees and wild edible plants on my family's property. Growing up, my dad taught us so much about the natural world with an emphasis on safety and aligning with the seasons. And my mom taught us how to prepare and preserve the bounty that was around us with a focus on flavor and hospitality. As a librarian and researcher, I love reading and sharing about the medicinal properties of herbs and how to use food as medicine.
