Doors open 2.00pm
The battle of Trafalgar took place on 21st October 1805 off the coast of southern Spain and established the Royal Navy’s supremacy of the seas for the next 100 years. The fight saw the combined fleets and France and Spain, commanded by French Admiral Villeneuve, defeated by the unorthodox tactics formulated by Vice Admiral Lord Nelson – it was of course a bitter/sweet encounter with Britain losing its foremost naval commander, shot on deck by a sniper in the enemies rigging at the moment of victory – regarded as one of the greatest ever naval battles.
