Curriculum-aligned workshop designed to empower secondary level History teachers
About this Event

Join Field Studies Ireland for a fully outdoor, curriculum-aligned workshop designed to empower secondary level History teachers to confidently deliver meaningful fieldwork that explores the history of our landscapes and how people have shaped, and been shaped by, their environment over time.

This hands-on outdoor course explores the full process of planning and leading high-quality History fieldwork experiences, from site selection and risk assessment to data collection, recording techniques, interpretation, and curriculum links.

Participants will examine the use of natural and cultural landscapes as rich resources for teaching history, uncovering evidence of past human activity through features such as boundaries, settlements, monuments, and heritage. The workshop will also introduce practical approaches for connecting classroom learning with place-based investigation, supporting key enquiry skills such as observation, evidence gathering, and interpretation.

Whether you want to lead fieldwork yourself or continue to use a provider such as Field Studies Ireland, this workshop is designed to empower teachers to increase their understanding of History outdoors, enhancing pupil learning through real-world investigation and connection to place.

It is suitable exclusively for secondary level History teachers, relevant across all stages of NI and ROI curricula.

Expect an immersive, 100% outdoor education experience, exploring the stories of our landscapes.

Note: Field Studies Ireland can bring this training directly to your team or local environment. If you have a group of people interested in this training, get in touch and we can provide more information specific to your team or location. www.fieldstudies.ie.
