Recharge your batteries, connect with fellow educators, and engage in artmaking at this special creative development session for teachers at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.
JMKAC Education staff will be joined by long-time community partner Frank Juárez, a Sheboygan-area educator and advocate for the arts, for a presentation, “Cultivating Space for Emerging Artists.” As educators, in what ways can we infuse our artistic lives into our teaching practice? How can we acknowledge and share our students’ voices and perspectives outside of the art room and into our communities? Juárez will explore these questions and more, highlighting the necessity of nurturing future creatives.
We will spend time in the Arts Center’s galleries, exploring the This is Where I’m Coming From exhibition series focused on themes of place and belonging. After a delicious catered lunch, participants are invited to place themselves into the narrative of an exhibition, think about their creative journey, and respond by making an original work of art.
Finally, we will join artist-in-residence Lonnie Holley and community partners for a celebration of Holley’s work in the Sheboygan community at the culmination of his two-week long residency at the Arts Center.
Teacher Recharge is free for Wisconsin Art Education Association (WAEA) members. Space is limited. Please email Nora James, associate curator of programming and learning, at [email protected] to register as a WAEA member.
