Come join for the Tea n Qi in the Park
This will be a reoccurring event here at Laurelhurst park 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings throughout the summer sun season 🌞
Note: this event is not our tea picnic in the park collaboration with Enthea Teahouse. This is qigong and tea. Enthea tea picnics are once a month and have a separate event post.
Tea n Qi itinerary:
Tea 6:30-7pm
Qigong 7-8pm
Tea 8-8:30pm
Soft arrival 6:30-7.
Come join and get grounded by drinking tea to awaken the senses, calm the nervous system, slowing down with each sip. Both caffeinated and herbal options will be provided.
Please arrive by 7pm or 7:05 at the latest 🙏🏼
Qigong starts at 7pm (closed container)
An hour of Gift of the Tao Qigong from the Stillness Movement Jing Dong Gong Lineage. Each week will be a slightly different theme and focus. Foundational moves will be taught each class as a way to build familiarity. A few new moves will be taught each class to add variety and novelty to one’s learning journey with qigong.
Tea integration 8-8:30
Each class will end with tea integration for the last 30 min. We will begin with tea and silence, and then lead into opening the container and conversation for sharing of ones experience with the qigong practice that day. We will sip tea into the sunset. Perfect way to finish the day together.
Qigong is the life giving energy cultivation practice of China. Its history predates written records older than 5,000 years ago. Qigong is intimately connected with Chinese Medicine, Martial Arts and meditation practices. Qigong is a way of connecting deeper with yourself, your energy and the environment around you. Qigong promotes healing and harmony for body, mind and spirit. Qigong is a practice that transcends linear words and language, it must be experienced first hand to truly understand what this practice can do for you.
Aspects of qigong we will learn together:
Breath work
Tendon/joint Stretching
Vertebrae alignment
Energy cultivation
Stillness development
Tree qi connection
Inner peace/harmony
Tea: tea has been paired with meditation, martial arts, Chinese medicine and Qigong since people first began drinking and cultivating the tea plant (Camellia sinensis). Tea’s phytochemistry of containing both caffeine (stimulant) and theanine (relaxant) creates a uniquely balanced experience of physical activation with mental clarity paired with deep muscular relaxation and mental stillness within. This yin yang balance of tea speaks to why this plant has been paired with movement, meditation and poetry since antiquity. Tea is the perfect plant companion to join us on our voyages into the realm of Qigong embodiment practices.
The tea and herbal non-caffeined options will be sourced from Enthea Teahouse. All teas from Enthea are ethically sourced from farmers who specialize in small hand craft production methods. Many of the teas come from wild ecology forest agriculture, using sustainably picked leaves from old growth tea trees ranging from 250-800 years old. Enthea Teahouse is located in SE Portland, strong encouragement to visit in person for anyone wishing to explore the world of tea deeper beyond this class.
Class Location:
We will be meeting in the south western corner of Laurelhurst park. A map of our class location will be posted in the discussion comments of this event, please look at the map for clarification of where we will be meeting. It will be easy to find us on blankets drinking tea together.
Cost: $25
The cost includes both high craft sourced teas and authentic lineage based qigong instruction.
If the price of the event is an issue for you attending, please reach out to me privately and send me a message. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Tea and qigong should be available to everyone regardless of income bracket. A low income sliding scale will be available to anyone who expresses need.
