Join the awesome instructors from Canoes, Mountains and Caves for this exciting outdoor session.
Bushcraft helps us remember the skills our ancestors relied upon daily in order to survive and thrive.
Session 1: Fire Lighting. We will pay homage to that history by learning to light our own fires. We will explore using tools to help us split wood and use sparks from a fire steel to create individual mini fires.
Session 2: Shelter and Cooking. When travelling our ancestors needed to know how to create shelter. We will practice this by making and testing 'mini natural shelters' followed by cooking some simple bread over a fire.
This session is aimed at upper Primary School age to lower Secondary School age (8 to 14 years old). Minimum age 8 years old or equivalent to Year 4 school age. Parents/carers are welcome to assist young people on a case by case basis without being included in the ratio.
This is a Pay What You Can event so please adjust as suits you. The Tuck Shop will be open at TCR for drinks and snacks.
TCR Hub is delighted to present the first events of the TCR Time Travelling project, as part of the Street Cosmos partnership. Running from February 2026 to July 2027, we will be enjoying visiting different places and this is your chance say where and when we will go!
Working with Blackhall Community Centre, Auckland Youth and Community Centre (ATCC) and TCR Hub, Street Cosmos is an award-winning collaboration with Durham University that brings history to life here in Teesdale. It is funded by Esmée Fairbairn Communities & Collections Fund which is run by the Museums Association, funding projects that develop collections to achieve social impact. With a time travelling day every holiday in 2026, we will immerse ourselves in different periods and places, through creativity, outdoor activities, dance, clothes, food and more. Be a part of it!
