TCC NW Campus Prairie and Pollinator Garden - Making It Work with What Ya Got
The Story of Tarrant Community College’s 5-Acre Prairie and Pollinator Garden. Starting in 2017, TCC NW Biology and Horticulture began converting an overflow campus parking lot along Marine Creek Lake into a functional outdoor space. Roughly 4 acres of the site were prepared and seeded with a mix of native grasses and wildflowers. With TCC NW Faculty, Staff, and students, a Pollinator Garden was built during a one-year period in 2019.
Overview of Installation and management practices including soil prep, planting, path and arbor install, invasive W**d control, irrigation, and most importantly - all the good folks who have contributed. This presentation will share the pictures and timeline from 2017 through today including challenges, lessons learned, and success.
About David:
David is currently Coordinator II and Adjunct Faculty for the Horticulture program at Tarrant County College (TCC). He has been at TCC for 11 years. David has worked in TX Agriculture for over 20 years in a diversity of fields including organic farming, sustainable ag training, landscape horticulture, livestock and forage production, and prairie restoration. Since joining the TCC Horticulture program in 2015, David has taught Landscape Irrigation, Food Crops, Soil Science, and led the effort to convert 5 acres on NW campus to a pollinator garden and native prairie in restoration. He graduated from Texas A&M in 2005 with a B.S. in Soil and Crop Science.
