About this Event
Ta'zeez al Sumoud Student Iftar Event
Organised by the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), Association of Student Activism for Palestine (ASAP) and the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB)
Join us for an Iftar and discussion on our role in the student movement for Palestine and the ways in which we can advance the struggle for liberation post-ceasefire.
Ramadan is a time for community and togetherness, it’s also about discipline, giving and struggling beyond our own selves for a greater good. We know that in Ramadan, the Zionist entity’s violence against our people intensifies as they try to break our spirit. This year, it is more important than ever for us to double down on our commitment to our people in Palestine, especially those in Gaza as they continue to resist, rebuild, and return. We must take up the task of supporting their steadfastness by strengthening our power as student organisers and recommitting to Palestinian liberation. At this moment, fundraising is an essential part of our role in supporting our people’s efforts to stay on their land. We will be discussing how students can drive forward this effort, what forms of strategic work the student movement can take up in this critical moment, and much more!
This will also be an opportunity to meet and spend time with student organisers from other campuses, to share ideas, experiences and learnings.
As part of our efforts to support the rebuilding of the people of Gaza, this event is ticketed at £10 with the proceeds going directly to MECA (Middle East Children’s Alliance), as part of the PYM’s international fundraiser, The People Stand with Gaza. MECA is one of the only aid organisations that has worked consistently over the last 16 months to deliver aid to the people of Gaza, even in areas in the North, where they were occasionally the only organisation operating. Since the beginning of the genocide, MECA and its partners have provided millions of hot meals (an average of 10,000 meals a day), 20,000 hygiene kits, 1 million gallons of water, and 18,000 sets of warm clothes to Palestinians in Gaza. By supporting an aid organisation like MECA, we are enabling the development of aid infrastructure that supports sovereignty, rather than dependency, allowing us to take up our role in supporting the people’s ability to stay rooted and steadfast (samidun) on the land.
