Taste the Tradition at Villa Manila

What began in 2023 as a heartfelt celebration of Filipino American History Month has grown into a beloved tradition. Now, Part 2 invites you back for an unforgettable evening that blends modern creativity with deep cultural roots.

The evening opens with a powerful FILAM art exhibition by Kwento Thesis (Ron Recaido), a local artist whose work is deeply rooted in Filipino American experiences and draws cultural inspiration from the Philippines, paired with a Filipino-inspired cocktail hour. Guests will then enjoy an intimate Kamayan feast prepared by local chefs, each presenting 2–3 signature dishes that reimagine Filipino flavors while honoring tradition.

The celebration continues with a special FILAM Awards, honoring local Filipino Americans making a difference in the community:

1. Community Impact Award – Recognizes a Filipino American individual or organization making a meaningful impact through advocacy, volunteerism, or social initiatives.
2. Culinary Excellence Award – Celebrates a chef, restaurateur, or culinary creator who elevates Filipino cuisine, innovates traditional flavors, and preserves cultural heritage.
3. Community Leadership & Advocacy Award – Honors an individual supporting the Filipino/Filipino American community in National City through civic engagement, city representation, and initiatives that help Filipino culture thrive.
4. Storytelling – Acknowledges a filmmaker, producer, or content creator whose storytelling brings Filipino culture and community to life.
5. Cultural Connector Award – Highlights someone who fosters community connection by organizing impactful local events in National City.

The night continues with karaoke and line dancing and concludes on a sweet note with a thoughtfully crafted Filipino dessert.

More than a dinner, Taste the Tradition is a living tribute to Filipino culture and identity—continuing the journey we began together in 2023. Let’s celebrate a new tradition!
