Fred Hearns, Curator of Black History at the Tampa Bay History Center, presents an enlightening talk on the development of Tampa’s first Black History Museum, set to open in 2027 in the historic St. James Episcopal Church. Learn how this long-overdue cultural landmark is taking shape in the heart of the Encore District. Hearns will also reflect on the legacy of the former African American Museum of Art (1991–1998) and share his personal experiences growing up in Tampa during key moments in the city’s Black cultural history.
