About this Event

(Vancouver), led by Artistic Director and DV Residency Artist Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg, is known for bridging the divide between dance and theatre with humour, pathos, and cultural relevance.
In this Rough Cut studio showing, Cheyenne Friedenberg is experimenting with a live version of the popular podcast The Talking Shit Show, combining dance-theatre, elements of stand-up comedy, vibes of late-night talk shows, and raucous daytime TV energy. The performance features local community dancers who participated in Cheyenne Friedenberg's Artist Residency at DV Studios.
The project will shine an unconventional spotlight on artists: the ‘shit’ we make up, and the ‘shit’ we deal with along the way, while nurturing a platform for audience/witnesses and other artists to challenge, confront, rage, and love together in the presence of each other.

About Tara Cheyenne Performance

Since 2007, Tara Cheyenne Performance (TCP) has been creating and performing kinetic theatrical expressions through exquisitely realized characters, crafted choreography, a healthy dose of comedy, and lashings of tragedy. Bridging the divide between dance and theatre, the company is known for its humour, pathos, and cultural relevance, and has been described as “a gateway drug to dance.”

TCP is a leader in community engagement, audience and artist development, offering workshops, discussions, and mentorship opportunities with each project. The company has been presented in Vancouver by The Cultch, The Firehall, The Dance Centre, and The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, among others, and has toured extensively throughout British Columbia.

Artistic Director Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg’s choreography is a staple of productions by the Arts Club Theatre Company, Bard on the Beach, and the PuSH Festival. Cheyenne Friedenberg also mentors artists through a variety of programs, including Riotous Youth, SFU Contemporary Dance, Modus Operandi, The Shoe Project, and TCP’s own Startle Reflex residency program.
