Taps for Terrapins: A Fundraiser for the Staten Island Terrapin Project
About this Event
Taps for Terrapins
A Fundraiser for the Staten Island Terrapin Project
Join Freshkills Park, the Staten Island Zoo, and Flagship Brewery on Wednesday, August 26, at 6:00 PM for an evening of local craft beer, conservation, and community!
Enjoy a selection of Flagship Brewery's locally crafted beers while supporting the Staten Island Terrapin Project, a collaborative conservation initiative dedicated to protecting Staten Island's native diamondback terrapins and the tidal wetlands they call home. Proceeds from ticket sales will directly support terrapin conservation, research, habitat protection, and public education.
The diamondback terrapin is the only turtle in North America that lives exclusively in brackish water. Although protected by New York State law, these remarkable turtles continue to face numerous threats, including habitat loss, nest predation, road mortality, pollution, and illegal collection. Staten Island's extensive salt marshes provide critical habitat for this iconic species, making local conservation efforts more important than ever.
Throughout the evening, you'll have the opportunity to learn about the Staten Island Terrapin Project, meet the dedicated partners working to protect these turtles, and discover how conservation efforts at Freshkills Park and throughout Staten Island are helping secure a brighter future for the species.
Whether you're a craft beer enthusiast, a wildlife lover, or simply looking for a fun night out that gives back to the community, Taps for Terrapins is an event you won't want to miss.
