Conscious Kids is coming out to the Piha Matariki Festival to teach us Taonga Tākaro and flax weaving! Come for a little bit or stay for a long while.
Join Kōkā T and Māmā Kirā for a hands-on Taonga Tākaro workshop celebrating Matariki through the traditional Māori arts of play, movement, music, and storytelling. Participants will explore a range of taonga tākaro (traditional Māori games and instruments), learning how our tūpuna used play to develop physical skills, coordination, observation, teamwork, and cultural knowledge.
This interactive whānau-friendly session will include traditional Māori games, activities inspired by the stars of Matariki, and opportunities to connect with te ao Māori through laughter, movement, and shared learning. Suitable for all ages and abilities, this workshop encourages whanaungatanga, creativity, and a deeper appreciation of Māori knowledge and traditions.
