This year for Tanksgiving we will be doing something completely different from previous years. Each participant will select a single wheeled, tracked, or hover vehicle to bring with them which will be entered into a Death Race/Circus Maximus mashup of epic proportions. The entry fee for this event will be $10 or 20 non-perishable food items. All money and food will be donated to the Statesboro Food Bank.
If you would like to signup, please put your name and the tank you wish to bring on this sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1M8CrKq-sKlEVWAPqVEHf3h9EgELC4Uf7IjiEWdwcQVs/edit?usp=sharing
The race will start at 7pm and run for 4 hours. My goal is to complete 20 turns in those 4 hours. Meaning that, assuming you survive, you will get to move your tank 20 times and shoot with it 20 times. Because waiting around for your turn at big events is a nightmare, I will be calling out whose turn it is and will expect you to be ready to complete your actions immediately, anyone who is unprepared or misses their callout will be skipped to allow for those who are paying attention more time to play.
During the race, you may choose to buy upgrades for your tank or impediments for enemy tanks, upgrades and impediments may be purchased with either non-perishable food items or cold hard cash. The list of upgrades will be a surprise reveal on the day of the event.
Victory Points
During the event, each participant will be traversing a 35 foot oval track in order to score points, blow up fellow racers, and survive! Points will be scored in the following ways:
1 Point per point of damage caused to an opponent.
10 Points for killing an opponent.
Points will be awarded to each player based on placing when a lap is completed by ANY tank on the board.
- 1st Place: 50 Points
- 2nd Place: 30 Points
- 3rd Place: 20 Points
- 4th Place: 10 Points
- 5th Place and beyond: 5 Points
The player with the most points at the end of the race will be the winner.
Turn Sequence
Each turn, all players will be able to move and shoot with their tank. Turn order will be based on speed, with the faster tanks going first. If multiple tanks are going the same speed, players will roll off to determine order.
Tanks will move, shoot and save just like normal 40k, with the following changes:
- All wounds will be multiplied by 10, if your tank has 12 wounds in 40k, it will have 120 wounds for this event.
- Standard movement speed for a tank will be triple what it is in 40k, if your tank moves 10 inches in 40k, its standard movement speed will be 30 inches for this event.
- Movement can be increased or decreased by ½ of your standard movement speed per turn to a max of 2x your standard movement speed. This means if you were traveling at your standard movement speed of 30, on the following turn you could choose to remain at 30, drop to 15, or increase to 45, and your maximum possible movement speed would be 60.
- Each time you move ½ of your standard movement speed you may rotate your tank up to 45 degrees. This means to do a 90 degree turn you would need to go your full standard speed. If you are traveling slower than your standard speed, each time you move ½ your current speed you may rotate your tank up to 45 degrees.
- You may purposely or accidentally hit something during the race, when this occurs, damage will be based on your speed and toughness, and the speed and toughness of the object you hit. This may also reduce your current speed.
- Any tank traveling faster than standard speed will suffer a -1 to its hit rolls and will be -1 to be hit.
- Any tank traveling its maximum speed will suffer a -2 to its hit rolls and will be -2 to be hit.
- For every 12 inches of current speed that the target is traveling faster than a model firing at it, increase the target’s toughness by 1. For example, a vehicle that is normally toughness 10 has a current speed of 36 and is fired at by a vehicle that has a current speed of 12, the target vehicle would count as being toughness 12.
- For each weapon you fire at an enemy tank, you will roll a D20 with your to-wound dice, a roll of a 1 will result in a ‘Low Critical,’ a roll of a 20 will result in a ‘High Critical.’ There will be two critical charts that you will then roll on, low criticals typically affect armor and movement capabilities, while high criticals typically affect weapon capabilities. These charts are a secret until the event starts.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
- In the interest of time, all weapons that are strength 4 or lower that are present on your tank will not be used for this event.
