TANGO OR NONTANGO FESTIVAL
October 9, 2026 | Privat Club, Berlin
Doors: 7:00 PM
Show: 8:00 PM
On October 9, 2026, Berlin's iconic Privat Club will host the TANGO OR NONTANGO FESTIVAL—a new platform for contemporary cultural exchange bringing together Latin American and European artists whose work is shaped by experimentation, migration, and hybrid artistic languages.
In a city where cultures constantly intersect and evolve, the festival creates a space where tradition meets innovation, highlighting emerging Argentine and Latin American artistic expressions within the European cultural scene. Rather than defining genres or preserving fixed traditions, TANGO OR NONTANGO invites audiences to experience cultural identities as living, evolving, and constantly transforming.
A central highlight of the festival will be the presentation of the Bandólica, the instrument created by Argentine artist Mariano "GODOY" Godoy and described by its creator as "an electronic mutation of the bandoneon." Today, the Bandólica is played by musicians in more than fifteen countries and represents a bold new direction in contemporary Río de la Plata music.
The festival's headliner, GODOY, is widely recognized as one of the most exciting voices of Buenos Aires' new tango scene. Blending songwriting, indie, electronic music, and a deeply Argentine identity, his work approaches tango not as a genre, but as an emotional landscape.
"Tango doesn't need guardians." — GODOY
Also performing is Acuario Cósmico, the Berlin-based project led by Argentine musician Gonzalo Marinucci. Their music combines psychedelic surf, krautrock, indie, and Latin American songwriting into a unique sonic journey shaped by migration, urban life, and cultural transformation.
Marinucci writes songs that effortlessly weave together German, English, and Spanish, creating a contemporary linguistic collage—a new kind of lunfardo born somewhere between Buenos Aires and Berlin.
TANGO OR NONTANGO FESTIVAL doesn't aim to answer what contemporary Latin American culture is. Instead, it creates the space where those questions can remain alive.
