During the 2hrs workshop you will learn:
Overview:
This workshop will explore innovative tango movements, focusing on back and front volcadas, sacadas, and voleos. We’ll work on combining volcadas with transfers to achieve fluidity and transitions, and introduce volcada with a gancho for an added dynamic. Participants will also practice incorporating voleos and embellishments for both leaders and followers.
Key Elements:
• Back and Front Volcadas: Understanding the mechanics and connection needed for off-balance movements.
• Volcada with a Gancho: Learn to combine the volcada with a gancho for dynamic interaction between partners.
• Sacadas: How to synchronize and control leg projections, integrating them with volcadas.
• Voleos and Embellishments: Techniques for both high and low voleos, adding personal style and expression.
The workshop will culminate in combining all these elements into a fluid sequence, adapting to the musicality of nuevo tango
Structure:
1. Warm-up and Physical Preparation (15 min)
• Mobility exercises for hips, ankles, and knees.
• Balance and stability exercises to prepare for volcadas and movements.
• Connection and dissociation practice with a partner.
2. Introduction to Back Volcadas (20 min)
• Explanation of the mechanics behind the back volcada.
• Basic partner exercises, exploring how to create controlled off-balance movements and counterbalance techniques.
• Importance of posture for both the leader and follower to maintain strong connection.
3. Transitions and Transfers in Volcadas (20 min)
• How to use transfers in volcadas to create fluidity in movement.
• Practice of lateral and circular transfers following a volcada.
• Tips for controlling energy and balance during transitions.
4. Sacadas (20 min)
• Introduction to sacadas within the dynamic of volcadas.
• Different types of sacadas and how to combine them with volcadas and transfers.
• Partner practice focusing on synchronization and control of leg projection.
5. Voleos and Embellishments (20 min)
• Incorporating voleos after sacadas.
• High and low voleos, with a focus on the follower’s technique to avoid unnecessary tension.
• Variations in embellishments to add more expression to the voleo.
6. Complete Combination (15 min)
• Exercise where participants combine back volcadas with transfers, sacadas, and voleos into a fluid sequence.
• Variation in rhythms and styles to adapt to different types of tango nuevo music.
7. Guided Practice and Feedback (10 min)
• Participants repeat the complete sequence with different partners.
• Individual technical corrections and creative suggestions for each couple.
8. Closing and Q&A (10 min)
• Time for questions and additional tips.
• Recommendations on how to incorporate these dynamics into improvisation.
