About Rafael Baere
Rafael started his life in dance at the age of 8 with break dance. Later, when he was around 15, he started learning classical ballet and contemporary dance. At the age of 17, he encountered ballroom dance and other embrace dances, like tango.
After falling in love with tango, he started leaving all the other dances behind and dedicated himself to a select few dance forms, one of them being tango. Since 2002 he took many seminars and private classes with the following masters: Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, Chicho and his partners Eugenia Parrilla and Juana Sepulveda, Fabian Salas and his partners, Julio Balmaceda with Corina de la Rosa, Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes, Pablo Verón, and Moira Castellano.
At the age of 22 he started giving classes and since then he has travelled the world, taking advantage of mastering several languages, giving group classes, private classes and seminars, with a partner or alone in Europe, Russia, Brasil, Argentina, Asia and Oceania, the United States and Canada. His classes mainly focus on posture, balance, fluid energy, embrace and musicality. He considers that the best way to learn how to dance is by studying, not just copying sequences.
Seeking complementary studies alongside his work as a teacher, he studied Alexander Technique, Rolfing, Feldenkrais, Franklin Method and dove deep into books about the history of dance, anatomy for dancers, biomechanics and he took advantage of his knowledge of martial arts to build singular classes which aim to use body movements in the healthiest way possible.
Since 2012 he tours Asia and Oceania, United States and Canada, Europe and Middle East offering workshops, private classes and doing DJ for milongas, marathons and Festivals. He also travels in a less regular way to teach in South America, and Africa. His Private classes and DJ pages on Facebook have reviews from Dancers and Organisers from all over the world about his work.
In his work as a DJ, he aims to balance melodic and rhythmical orchestras, instrumental with sung tandas, and normally plays 2 tango tandas and 1 vals tanda, 2 tango tandas and 1 milonga tanda, changing to 3-1-3-1 according to the dance floor.
He finds that the dancers are the most important element to DJing, as they are the ones who give feedback to a DJ. Rafael has DJed in Europe, Russia, Brazil, USA and Argentina for more than 10 years and has received very positive feedback from milonga regulars.
