About this Event
Many clients that we work with struggle with feelings of unworthiness and a reluctance to face the parts of themselves that they don’t feel comfortable with. They often battle with a fierce inner critic who constantly bullies and harasses them to do better, and calls them a loser when they can’t manage it.
If we look closely at ourselves though, don’t many of us meet the same unkind and judgemental voice in our own minds? As counsellors and therapists don’t we sometimes feel inadequate to face the problems we are being asked to help solve?
In this 6-week online course we will look deeply into this voice—often referred to as our inner critic—and explore ways of working with it. In order to go into this thoroughly, we will explore what it means to understand suffering as an unavoidable part of life. By recognising common humanity, we can see that most people struggle with the same fears of not being good enough that we do we—struggles that we can learn from and grow through.
Dates:
Week 1, Tuesday March 04, 2025 - 1PM - 3PM
Week 2, Tuesday March 11, 2025 - 1PM - 3PM
Week 3, Tuesday March 18, 2025 - 1PM - 3PM
Week 4, Tuesday March 25, 2025 - 1PM - 3PM
Week 5, Tuesday April 01, 2025 - 1PM - 3PM
Week 6, Tuesday April 08, 2025 - 1PM - 3PM
We’ll consider the importance of practising self-kindness, and learning to support ourselves to grow, rather than beating ourselves up. We’ll examine how mindfulness can help us to see what is actually going on for us, rather than being carried away by our fears.
Many of you will recognise these as being the components of self-compassion—something that is often talked about but that people actually find hard to practice. We’ll look at the reasons why practising self-compassion can be challenging and look into the misconceptions that can arise as a result. We will examine the opportunities that self-compassion offers for deep healing for each of us, while recognising the benefits this has for our relationships with others.
We will learn a series of practices that can be integrated into our everyday schedule as a means of befriending our inner critic and owning self-compassion.
The course is limited to 25 participants to enable each person to contribute fully and work with their own individual self-compassion journey. People will be requested to have their cameras and microphones on and participate in break-out rooms, so that we can all learn from each other and provide sharing and support among the group. If this is not possible for you this time, then there many be further opportunities when the course is repeated.
There will be a workbook for the course, with a new section coming for each session. The course sessions will be recorded and participants will be able to access these after the course.
