Dr. Erika Hamden builds the telescopes that see what we’ve never seen — and she has a knack for explaining why that matters down here on the ground. As Director of the Arizona Space Institute and a 2026 Guggenheim Fellow, she works on the kind of far-off, uncertain research that doesn’t pay off tomorrow… and then quietly ends up in your phone, your hospital, your daily life decades later.
Her talk, “A Guide to Inventing the Future — How Space and Basic Research Make Your Life Better,” is about exactly that: why we fund the things we can’t yet see a use for, and what we’d lose if we stopped.
Come for the talk, stay for the conversation. Grab a beer, pull up a chair, and bring someone curious.
