Talking Postpartum Life with Two Authors & a Pediatrician
About this Event
Calling new and expecting mothers and their partners! We are thrilled to welcome editors Julie Buntin and Rebecca Knight (aka Becky Dinerstein) to Old Town Books Junior to celebrate their new book, NOTES TO NEW MOTHERS, a brave, unexpected, and revelatory look at postpartum life. Back when they had their first babies, these two editor friends found themselves comparing notes on what, exactly, was going on in their postpartum bodies and minds and realized there was no single comprehensive source for answers. In their new book, they have invited 65 acclaimed writers and artists—Julia Phillips, Kirstin Valdez Quade, Liana Finck, Jenny Slate, Naima Coster, and more—to riff on shared concerns, including burp volcanos, career shifts, breastfeeding logs, partnership dynamics, minor victories, and major insecurities. Here is a bedside table companion for every mother who has ever wondered how she’ll make it through the wilderness of early parenthood and a window into her experience for the family and friends desperate to better care for her.
Julie and Rebecca will be in conversation with Dr. Krupa Playforth, a leading pediatrician in the NOVA area, mother of three, and a children’s author, who is adored on Instagram for her indispensable advice as @thepediatricianmom. The conversation will last 40 minutes, followed by a Q&A and then a chance to get books signed.
Tickets are $10 per person and will be applied as store credit to be used at or after the event.
Rebecca Knight is the author of the novels Hex, The Sunlit Night, and poems Lofoten, and screenwriter of The Sunlit Night feature film adaptation. Julie Buntin is the author of Marlena and Famous Men, and an assistant professor in the English Department at the University of Michigan.
Krupa Bhojani Playforth, MD is…a board-certified, Harvard-educated pediatrician and mother of three living in Northern Virginia, who believes in helping parents and children get clear guidance about their health. In addition to her private practice, WarmHeart Pediatrics, Dr. Playforth runs the evidence-based website and social media platform, The Pediatrician Mom, designed to prevent the dreaded "middle-of-the-night google search” and with over 200K followers on Instagram alone. She is also the author of Eyes, Nose, Belly, Toes: My First Human Body Book; Eyes, Knees, Boundaries Please: My First Book About Private Parts & Consent; and a co-author of Baby Leads the Way: An Evidence-Based Guide to Serving Solid Foods.
