About this Event

A Q&A with Dr. Emile DeVito

The Sourland Region hosts the largest contiguous forest in central New Jersey, providing clean drinking water to more than 800,000 residents and sheltering 57 state-listed threatened and endangered species. As invasive species, climate change, deer overpopulation and other pressures continue to reshape the forest canopy, understanding how to protect and steward this landscape matters more than ever.

Join us for a lively and informative evening with Dr. Emile DeVito, New Jersey Conservation Foundation's Manager of Science and Stewardship, for an open Q&A about Sourland region flora and fauna. Bring your questions about planting native species at home, stewarding preserved land, controlling invasive species, reducing deer impact, or anything else on your mind about the region we call home.

About Dr. Emile DeVito

Dr. DeVito has served as NJCF's Manager of Science and Stewardship since 1989. He holds a doctorate in Ecology, earned in 1988 for research on bird communities and vegetation landscapes in New Jersey's Pine Barrens, and develops management plans for NJCF's 20,000+ acres of holdings to protect and enhance biological diversity. He regularly educates officials, advocacy groups, land trusts, and educators on forest-interior habitat and the needs of migratory Neotropical songbirds, and serves as a trustee of the Pinelands Preservation Alliance and the NJ Natural Lands Trust, as well as on the state's Endangered and Non-Game Species Advisory Committee, the NJ Invasive Species Council, and the Science Advisory Committee of the NY-NJ Trail Conference.
