A talk on the early canal and later expansion in Newcastle by Bernard Lovatt of Etruria Industrial Museum Cost £5, pre-booking recommended
About the talk
Newcastle was unusual for a small town in having three canals. They were built to bring coal into the town and to transport the coal, coke and pig iron produced around Apedale to other parts of the country. Bernard Lovatt looks at their development and how they were essential to the economic development of the district.
