Wild Shore New Music is one of Alaska’s few organizations dedicated to contemporary chamber music. Founded in 2012 by three Alaska-raised musicians, Wild Shore fosters collaborations between living composers, musicians worldwide, and Alaska’s creative artists and residents. Wild Shore New Music celebrates its eleventh season in October 2024 by exploring Alaska’s origins and connections to contemporary American culture. The season’s featured artist is Dr. Heidi Aklaseaq Senungetuk, a violinist and ethnomusicologist born with ancestral roots in Wales (Kiŋigin).
Wild Shore New Music brings a unique program featuring:
~Alaskan premiere of "For Zitkála-Šá Series" by Raven Chacon
~Dr. Senungetuk's interpretation of "50 Caprice Variations" for solo violin by George Rochberg
~Additional works by Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate’, Leilehua Lanzilotti, and Timo Andres
This residency also includes:
~Performances at Paul Banks Elementary School (Oct 10) & Kaleidoscope School (Oct 14)
~Community outreach events throughout Alaska including a concert at the Anchorage Museum (Oct 16) & the University of Alaska Fairbanks (Oct 19)
