They say the course of true love never did run smooth, and nowhere is that more true than in the everyday lives of Somerset’s past.

Join Archivist Eve Bickerton as she delves into the archives to discover stories of love and romance the day before Valentine’s Day. Using original documents and local history resources from the archive collections of Somerset Archives and Local Studies, Eve will reveal the everyday realities of romance in Somerset’s past.

From 19th-century correspondence between Henry and Anne Leigh of Hammet Street—whose marriage in 1810 sparked years of letter-writing across the county—to wartime love letters from Ruby in Ohio to an unnamed American GI stationed in Glastonbury, the archives offer a glimpse into Somerset's relationships through the ages.
