Talk and Book Signing with Artist and Illustrator Elizabeth Zunon

Meet Elizabeth Zunon, artist and award-winning illustrator. Elizabeth has illustrated over twenty children's books, including “Stitch by Stitch: Elizabeth Hobbs Keckly Sews Her Way to Freedom” and “Martha and the Slave Catchers." She will share her artistic process using textiles and multimedia to tell stories about United States history. Following the talk, Elizabeth will be available to sign copies of her books, which will be for sale.

Copies of “Stitch by Stitch: Elizabeth Hobbs Keckly Sews Her Way to Freedom” and “Martha and the Slave Catchers” will be available for purchase during the event and 100% of all sales will support the Ten Broeck Mansion. Donations to support the Ten Broeck Mansion's archives preservation and transcription gratefully appreciated.

2 pm: Presentation, facilitated Q&A from audience, and book signing.

3 pm refreshments/reception on the Ten Broeck Mansion porch. Event concludes at 3:30 pm.

Advance registration is required as space is limited. Please cancel your registration if you are not able to attend so that others may enjoy the presentation.

To make your visit enjoyable and safe for all:

1) By car: please park in our Livingston Avenue lot, GPS address 136 Livingston Avenue, Albany NY. Free off-street parking. Our historic neighborhood has sidewalks for easy pedestrian access. See our website for information on public transportation.

2) Please wear comfortable shoes for walking on historic, sometimes uneven surfaces (no spike heels). Bags should be smaller than a backpack. Please no touching of historic museum collections, and no food may be brought into the Ten Broeck Mansion. Water (in closed non-glass bottles) may be brought into historic museum spaces.

About the Author:

Elizabeth Zunon is the award-winning illustrator of over twenty children’s books, an author and mural artist. Born in Albany, Elizabeth spent her childhood in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), West Africa, where she loved to draw, paint, make up dances, and play dress-up. Surrounded by the bright, vibrant colors of everyday West African fabrics and tropical vegetation, Elizabeth’s love of color and pattern grew and lingered past her return to the United States as a teenager. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design and graduated with a B.F.A. in Illustration in 2006. Elizabeth now lives in Albany with her husband and young son, where she explores a multicultural world through painting, collage, silk-screening, embroidery, and more.
