Talisman is Swansea's longest-running poetry & spoken word open mic night, expertly curated by Rebecca Lowe.
Held on the last Thursday of the month anyone can sign up, and featured poets are a regular feature. Sign up from 7.30pm ahead of readings starting at 8pm.
This month's featured reader is Rhys Hughes.
Born in Cardiff, Rhys Hughes has written in a variety of forms, from short stories to novels.
His long novel Engelbrecht Again! is a sequel to Maurice Richardson's 1950 cult classic The Exploits of Engelbrecht and is the most radical of Hughes's books, making extensive use of lipograms, typographical tricks, coded passages and other OuLiPo techniques.
His major project consisted of authoring a 1,000-story cycle of both tightly and loosely interconnected tales, a project that was completed in 2022. His books have had introductions and afterwords provided by Michael Moorcock, Jeff VanderMeer, A.A. Attanasio, Michael Cisco, Paul Di Filippo, John Clute, E.F. Bleiler and others.

His latest title 'Songs Gone Wrong' is a comic poetry collection. Published by Mission Creep Press, the book features playful and unhinged performance poems inspired by misheard lyrics, broken melodies, and the wreckage of half-remembered songs.
