Tales for the Dark Tide of the Year.

P.D. Brown has lived most of his life in the north of England; between 2003 and 2024, he lived and worked in Aberdeenshire as a Countryside Ranger. Interested from an early age in mythology and Paganism, he has long been fascinated by the power of the spoken and written word, whether this is through oral story-telling, poetry, prose, incantation, rhetoric, song or hypnosis. Since the 1980’s he has been a semi-professional story-teller specialising in ghost and horror stories and pre-Christian tales from the Celtic and Germanic cultures of north-west Europe.
He has written two collections of poetry: ‘Dark Fruit of an Ash – the Pennings of a Ranger-Poet’, poems mainly on various species of trees, birds and animals and more generally on environmental decline; ‘Nine Runes of Mead-Speech’ features poems on Norse mythological themes.
He has previously published 'Thirteen Moons: Reflections on a Heathen Lunar Year'. This sets out the case for the Norse and Anglo-Saxon lunar calendar; there then follow poems and invocations for each of the year's full moons.
He has also co-edited and contributed to: ‘The Rune-Poems: A Reawakened Tradition’.
Both of the above titles were published by Arcana Europa in the U.S.
With Liminal Gate Press he has published ‘Legends Less Sweet’, a collection of northern ghost and folk-horror stories, and ‘Bright-Browed, Oak-Hearted - Myth and Memory of Our Ancient Isles’.
