Join world-class program leaders, aspiring and established writers, and local Aboriginal community leaders in Tasmania's glorious Huon Valley to learn, make connections and write your story with confidence.The Huon Valley is a land of natural beauty, artisan producers and intriguing stories. The first week of November, it’s also home to Terror Australis Readers and Writers Festival’s unmissable week of professional development for writers.
Set on the Huon River, Franklin mixes excellent cafes and restaurants with charming historic buildings, Federation-style architecture, a wooden boat centre and one of Tasmania’s most famous cideries, Frank’s.
Held in St John’s Church in Franklin, Huon Valley, this year’s six day retreat will support you to make significant progress on your current manuscript with:
- pre-retreat planning,
- daily goal setting,
- structured writing hours,
- daily sessions with program leaders,
- planning to continue once you return home, and
- optional chapter critique groups to get feedback on your work and learn a new skill.
The retreat includes a Q&A session with members of the local palawa/Tasmanian Aboriginal community for writers who wish to include references to local Aboriginal culture or history in their work.
While the retreat is suitable for writers in all genres, most examples provided will be drawn from crime and mystery fiction.
3 days - Melbourne Cup long weekend - $449, incl. GST
6 days - $690, including GST.
Mindful of rises in the cost of living, this year we've opened the program up to all writers regardless of where they stay.
You're free to arrange accommodation and meals that best suit your needs, and if you would like to share with another writer/spot an option in our list of suggested places to stay (under the Discussion tab in this event) please let us know if you would like to be put in touch with someone else looking for the same.
The week includes a series of semi-organised dinners. Retreaters may choose to opt-in.
