Tad will be backed by three of the most versatile musicians in the region, including Paul Holdman on guitar, Kevin Anker on the Hammond organ and Brian Yarde on drums.
Tad is on tour behind “Soul in Blue,” his new album released through Delmark Records. With it standing near the top of the major blues charts, DownBeat’s Frank Hadley has remarked that Tad, “sticks to his successful stock-in-trade: singing and playing harp on tunes percolating with humanity and tough-minded tenderness.”
“We treasure the opportunity to return to Gobin to be part of the Greencastle Summer Music Festival,” Tad remarked. “Eric Edberg and Gobin have created a wonderful environment for us to connect with a very special audience. His vision of 'friends making music with friends' couldn't be more apt for me and my band. We've been together for over 20 years and we are like a family, and we love playing for our friends in Greencastle.”
The GSMF’s free programs are a gift to the community from individual donors, Doc and The Dandelion: Your Local Bed and Breakfasts and an endowment at the Putnam County Community Foundation. As its major sponsor, The Inn at DePauw has hosted the festival’s out-of-town guest artists. Audience members are invited afterward to The Fluttering Duck, which is located at the Inn and serves until 10 p.m.
For those unable to attend in person, performances are livestreamed on the GSMF’s YouTube page at gsmfvideo.com.
About the performers:
Tad Robinson grew up in New York City and had his musical upbringing in Chicago, but he has a deep connection to Greencastle as his adopted hometown. From his beginnings singing folk songs at home with his siblings to a worldwide presence, his heartfelt vocals and harmonica chops form a blend of classic soul’s smooth emotion with the grit of Chicago blues. With 10 Blues Music Award nominations since 2006, along with his rigorous performance schedule, he has earned recognition as a recording artist and shared stages with legends of the genre.
Paul Holdman has had a diverse career as a soloist, bandleader, sideman, educator and recording artist known for his command of the blues, rock, country, rockabilly and surf guitar styles. He has performed with Tad for 20 years. He has also recorded with Grammy-nominated guitarist Ronnie Earl and written, performed and recorded with singer-songwriter Jennie Devoe. He is also a founding member of the popular Indianapolis-based Woomblies Rock Orchestra.
Kevin Anker has been integral in Tad’s last five albums, playing organ and piano as well as co-producing and co-writing material, in addition to being in his band for 20 years. He has broad experience playing blues, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, soul, funk, hip-hop, reggae, and country. He has performed locally, nationally and internationally with a variety of artists, including four-time Grammy winner Delbert McClinton, Seth Walker and The Fabulous Thunderbirds, among others.
Brian Yarde moved to Indianapolis from his homeland of Barbados in 2007 and became a go-to percussionist for the “who’s who” of its music scene. He is a polished instrumentalist playing in blues, jazz, progressive rock, reggae, R&B and Afro-Cuban settings. Among quite a few others, he has worked with singer-songwriter Doug Henthorn, pianist and jazz arranger Steve Allee and The Tucker Brothers. A relative “newbie” in his music-making orbit, he joined Tad’s band in 2018.
