Training Course for Teachers at Imperial College (TaCTIC)

An online 3 hour course .

This is an interactive online course designed to give you a mix of theory and practical guidance on developing your teaching skills that can be applied in the workplace environment.

It will cover 'What is learning?', 'Learning needs assessment', 'Questioning styles', and 'Feedback.' and will help you to structure your teaching sessions. The course incorporates core aspects of clinical teaching and consistently links to medical educational theory.

The course runs for 3 hours. In order to receive your participation certificate you must be online and engaged for the full duration of the course. This includes carrying out a microteach in your small group.

Attendees

The course is open to all GPs teaching in a community or primary care setting, as well as F2s, STs, nurses, HCAs and any other healthcare professionals within a primary care setting.

Accreditation:

This course has educational accreditation by the RCGP. The RCGP Accreditation Quality Mark is an identifiable symbol of quality assurance that associates educational activities with the professionalism, expertise and commitment to the highest possible standards of general practice. GPs can be confident this education day has been independently assessed to ensure a consistent and high quality resource.

Supporting materials:

We will send you an email with your certificate of attendance following completion of your online feedback. This will detail the amount of hours of training and may be used towards NHS appraisal. Delegates must attend online for the duration in order to receive a certificate.

Facilitators:

The course will be led by our Faculty Development Lead Dr Sian Powell, with other Clinical Teaching Fellows and Undergraduate Placement Leads in Primary Care from Imperial College London alongside.

Information:

For those intending to teach Imperial medical students the course is mandatory in order to commence teaching.

The course is free for delegates already teaching for Imperial, or are signing up to teach medical students. If you book on please ensure you participate online as otherwise you will be blocking a place for other attendees. The course will be delivered via Zoom and a log on link will be sent to delegates the day before the course - please ensure that you are able to access Zoom, (including video). Access is to individuals on a single computer, please do not share course access with others in the practice as we will be unable to assign you to break out rooms effectively.
