Tackling Women’s Inequality Through Public Service Reform + AGM
About this Event
Join us at this hybrid event to explore why public service reform needs to take a gendered lens.
Public services should be built around people and communities, prioritise prevention, and contribute to reducing inequalities. Achieving these ambitions requires an understanding of how decisions about public services and the allocation of public resources affect women, and whether they help address or risk exacerbating gender inequalities.
Yet women’s experiences and needs remain largely invisible in current work on public service reform. How can gender budget analysis help ensure that reform delivers better outcomes for women and advances gender equality?
To address this gap, the Scottish Women’s Budget Group will launch Gender-Proofing Public Service Reform: A Discussion Paper. The paper explores how a gender budget approach can help ensure that public service reform delivers on its ambitions for prevention and efficiency without reinforcing existing gender inequalities.
The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion bringing together perspectives from across public services and policy. Panellists will explore the delivery of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) services and gender-sensitive policymaking at the local level, the role of care services and unpaid care in supporting prevention, and how Scotland’s Public Service Reform agenda can better reflect women’s experiences and advance gender equality.
Please note that the Gender Budgeting Tool Kit session will take place in person only. An online session will take place at another time.
