About this Event
Experience the magic of flamenco in an intimate space at Tablao Flamenco la Alcachofa! Each tablao show is unique as artists improvise and create in the moment, fostering an artistic conversation between musicians, singers, and dancers. Our January Tablao features dancer Aliesha Bryan with Elena Villa and Lillie Last, Randa BenAziz (vocals), Cara Eckhardt (vocals), Yeshe Wingerd (guitar), and Nick Hutch (percussion).Tablao Flamenco la Alcachofa
Aliesha Bryan:
The work of multidisciplinary performing artist Aliesha Bryan (she/her) emerges from a rich tapestry of movement incorporating Flamenco, Spanish and contemporary dance. Heavily influenced by her teachers and mentors, including Omayra Amaya, Raquel Heredia, Cristina Aguilera and Sara Martin, just to name a few, Aliesha is the author of a growing body of work that includes choreographic commissions and site-specific creations. Aliesha has appeared on stages ranging from international festivals to more intimate venues, including Peña La Platería in Granada, Spain, The Hemispheric Institute and the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the African American Museum in Philadelphia and the Victoria Flamenco Festival in British Columbia. And, since founding Blackbird Dance Company and its Development Lab in 2023, Aliesha has created three productions: "The Message", "Sacred Bodies, Sacred Sounds" and "At the Piano". She is also a dance/movement therapist and advocate for social change, and has been featured on BBC Podcast, “The Reset”, in Dance Magazine, and in Camille A. Brown’s “Social Dance for Social Change” series.
